Goodness, Brian, you do have troubles! The reason I replaced mine was
that I had already replaced it with a generic VW antenna I got from
Schucks, a chain related to Kragen and others. It was crap. First, I had
to grind part of the base (not the collar) off to get it in the hole. Even
then it didn't hold well since the collar was made of plastic and wouldn't
take the pressure necessary to hold it in place. It wobbled all over the
place which is why I started over with a better one with a metal collar,
the one that need to be ground down. I don't know what to tell you anymore.
