Terry; I had trouble with this concept also. Since I have an engine apart I can see that an oil level corresponding to the full mark(on the dip stick) has the cam fully submerged. All I can figure is this causes a high degree of foaming which interferes with the crank and pistons. It is probably harder for foam to give up it's heat also. The jury is still out though. I have purchased an oil temp gauge but have not installed yet, need to fix over sized drain hole.
