I was able to get the compressor to run after fooling with the temp. switch. I don't think it had been used for a few years. Maybe it was just stuck? I added some freon and it cools. It sounds like the compressor may be bad or failing. I am not sure exactly how much freon is in there. I was filling the lo side until I got about 29 to 30 psig. The compressor loaded up the engine where it wouldn't idle very well and the compressor started making a whining noise (kind of like me), so I shut it down. It cools OK, I measured 55F at the air vents, with the outside air around 85F. I was wondering if too little freon would cause whining, or is the compressor bad? The noise seems loudest at idle to 1500 rpm, then becomes less noticeable while driving. Would more freon help? The system works OK and would be useful for long trips. The fan is almost as loud as having the windows down! Jay '85 Westy (The Hindenburg)
