Subject: Leaky Oil Plug - Outcome
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

Made it ok into the shop with my loose oil plug! Since they don't get daily parts deliveries from VW dealership 2 hrs away, I had to go with NAPA.

My old leaking plug had a single copper washer & Bob, the mechanic, said he didn't think threads were stripped. He put in an "oversize" plug with 14 x 1.5 mm threads & washer. Bob tells me my old plug was a replacement & he suspects the threads were "worn" in the case.

So now I've got this "oversize" plug & washer & no oil has leaked in 20 minutes of driving. Am I home free? Unless advised otherwise, I intend buying another "oversize" plug as a spare, along with the washers. Does all this sound cricket?

Thanks all, Phaedra '85 Westy 4-speed
