Mick:

No, I didn't "do" it but one got weaker and weaker so at the end the open hatch would "creep" down which is when I replaced it because one isn't strong enough to hold the hatch up.

Gripe: two fully charged struts are too strong making it hard to close the hatch while inside, I wish they were adjustable!

You know what happens is that the oil in the cylinder hangs out at the bottom normally which prevents the compressed air from escaping. Open the hatch and the angle changes exposing the seal to air. After days of being open, especially in hot weather, the compressed air starts leaking out and they get weak.

So maybe I should leave the hatch open until it gets easier to close and then treat in normally from then on.
