I live in the Verde Valley of Arizona, my '90 Westy was converted to 134a some time ago and even has a second condenser and fan, and it too has a hard time cooling when the temp hits 100 degrees. The back seat is another story. Tinted windows, all curtains closed and extra radiant barrier insulation in those parts of the body I could reach. A yellow Lab dog I used too own loved it back there. Whenever we stopped, she always wanted to get out until I opened the sliding door and that blast from Hell hit. She had immediate second thoughts! Too bad I can't drive from back there.
