In talking to Alistair Bell this weekend about his Agilis 185 x 14 he commented that the were good rain tires, but didn't do well in snow or mud. I noticed that the 185 doesn't have a channel to the outside of it's tred and being a 185, the channels around the circumference were on the narrow side too. I just saw a Eurovan with 205' Agilis 51 on it. Same look, but the channels were noticeably wider. My comment is to go with the wider tire to allow loose material, snow, mud and etc. to be shed better. The narrow channels of the 185 don't allow enough room. Btw if you measure the actual tread block width without including the channels you'll find that most tires have about the same amount of rubber on the road, namely 14 cm or so. The wider tire just increase the channel width. Sincerely, Mark Keller 91 Carat.

I really need some feedback for the enlightened on this here list about tires. Perhaps if I ask my question differently... My Wolfsburg came with factory alloy wheels. The tires on it presently are Michelin MXT 205/70R14. Can I use either the Michelin Agilis 185x14 or the Yokohama Y356 in 185x14 on the factory alloys? I understand the 185x14 is a taller, narrower tire, but can it be mounted on the alloys? Please. I need some help. Alan Bosch & Phred ('88 Wolfsburg) |
