Marty, the cap does come off and is not threaded. Some trick that i've used: 0) the claw part of a claw hammer. just go around and around and around slowly prying 1) 1/2 of a pair of channel lock pliers. put part of it against the lip on the cap and the other part rests against the rotor. And just pry a little, rotate 1/2 pry a little, rotate 1/4 pry a little, rotate 1/2... etc.

Hope these help. By the way, be sure to pump the brakes BEFORE you drive because they need to self adjust! -m
