Well I've been a bit troubled by my mileage, which is on the low side:

90 Carat 2.1L, MT, stock, 195k mi on car, 30k mi on rebuild Last tank: 16.5 mpg; previous tank: 17 mpg 70% Hwy (`70mph), 30% City light load occasional AC proper tire pressure

Also, during a recent 2-Vanagon road trip, I compared my mileage to my 91-GL-Auto-165k-mi caravan buddy. My mileage was just a hair lower, although I used AC occassionally and the other hadn't. (But I also utilized cruise control, the other didn't)

I expected, though, that the manual trans would have a distinct advantage over the auto.

Ideas?

-James 90 Carat
