It's definitely a diesel picture, but where is the gasket? There is definitely a gasket between the filter mount and the block, but none for the oil pump. If you're thinking that the little 'ring' that is just above the oil pump shaft in the illustration is some type of seal, think again. It is part of the block and used for alignment of the pump shaft.

Let's not take this stuff personally. This is a quest for correct information, not knowledge supremacy. I am lucky enough to have a 1.6D block and oil pump sitting on the floor in my garage, so I have the benefit of being able to directly examine the parts rather than relying solely on the 80% correct Bentley manual.
