After 8 yrs. of fighting the (initially very) poor mpg of my 86 (the PO gave it new heads in 1992 and me left side only in 98) it looks like Bob resolved the last puzzler with his last week's post on valve adjustment. Last weekend I adjusted accordingly, took a day off yesterday + drove the kids to an amusement park 80mi from here (world's largest wooden roller coaster - once was enough (too much ?) for me but my 11yrs. old daughter enjoyed it). Got 250mi now with the needle still before red so mpg improved at least 10% to somewhere >20 (got an AT) even though I went faster than normal (5 girls pushed) and some stop + go traffic. Compression always was ok over the years but didn't check with the engine running. And a friend with his basically identical van reporting around 22mpg... Moral: One day you'll find her ! Thanks a lot Bob ! Michael, Germany 80 Westy 86 GL 86 Quantum 93 318 T
