Excuse me Ben, but the statement: "... Front facing ones also face a much circuitous route to get the ideal airbox position which is the right rear side. ..." Should be treated with the same dose of health skepticism which should be accorded the traditional wisdom of the politically correct! Wrong. Wrong. Please note that the I-4 installations executed by the factory (no direct knowledge of the SA solutions here) all use the air box mount on the left or driver's side rear. This includes the NA, CA and Euro versions of the diesel and the CA and Euro versions of the turbo diesel. In my conversion (as detailed in the archives) this is straightforwardly implemented and operational without mishap for more than 5 years. I have sent on a number of photos of this and other aspects of my conversion to TomC, but the time required to adjudicate inappropriate material seems to keep him from adding these to his web site. These photo are available to any with a stout email server (several Megs per topic) upon request. To reiterate, " the proper mounting of air filter and mass air flow meter is on the left rear and is made particularly straightforward by use of a digifant engine with throttle body at the pulley side of the engine. " Outrageous! Frank Grunthaner PS: Least I offend the nanometer-thick skinned of the list this comment is offered with a technical sense of mirth, words and syntax notwithstanding. |
