Another little trick in the 'duh' department is to loosen the big nut on the
outer VW and the hex nuts on the inner CV before you take the wheel off and
lift the van. Tightening vice versa of course, just like you would do with
your lug nuts.

On my Syncro the spindle (outer axle that's held in place by the big nut)
was secured with Loctite. It had to be pressed out. I rented a "hub
puller" at my local FLAPS (Kragen) for $6 something. It was real easy with
this tool to get the spindle out. I heard reports from others where the
spindle was not secured with Loctite and come right out.

does anyone have tips on replacing the front outer cv boot??short cuts
etc. or watchouts!! do you just remove inner at the front drive unit and
then remove nut at the drumb and slide out the outer cv??does the inner
slide out of front drumb easily or must it be pressed with tool??
