I am keeping my 90 GL!!
I am selling my 87 white GL 4 speed with heads that likely will need
replacing. Engine got hot shortly after independent VW shop " changed" the
coolant(souond familiar). Does not run currently. Bought it as is. IRS
payments are forcing me to sell it. Folks, this van is way worth sinking a
grand into to make it whole again. Photos to send p mail for any interested
parties. It has a new tow bar(copped from a superbeetle tow set up) that
takes 1 7/8" ball. Front bumper is off to accomodate the tow stuff. Except
for undoing the half shafts, this girl is ready to haul off. I'll even
provide the new 1 7/8" ball for your hitch if needed.
Pluses: NO RUST!!, only minor bondo on rear muffler apron and right rear
fender lip. Body needs washing and waxing. I'll gladly do it if you want
to pay extra! 92k miles, Alternator 2 yr. ago, 4 new CV joints since then,
interior is brown and in excellent(except for Alaskan husky shedding all
over). Sony AM FM CD player w/ pioneer/audiovox speakers. Battery is a year
old Everstart(with receipt from WM stuck to it for warranty if needed).
Weekender bed set upincluding rear mattress pad in excellent shape. Tires
are pretty new ie lots of tread, Kelly Chargers 215/70/14, but basically
pasenger car tires, spare is a goodyear invicta, also in great shape.
Bumpers and caps are fairly new. KYB shocks of unknown age. Windows were
professionally tinted. Has a Hornet security system on it( battery on the
keychain thingy needs replacing). No cracks in the glass or headlights.
Exhaust system appears real good. No sign of rear heater leakage. No
history on the brakes, but likely the fluid needs flushing. It towed
flawlessly behind a Ford 150 pickup the 50-60 miles we pulled it to the
current location.
Downers: Engine work previously alluded to. Two new AMC's, a gasket set,
and water pump for insurance should be all that's needed. Unsure of the
coolant hose history on the vehicle. Cooling system is currently pretty
empty. Rear AC unit is in need of reinforcing at the mounting brackets and
it's hanging down an inch or so. Air tunnel looks to be totally intact
though. Found a potential "hot spot on one of the left rear AC molex
conncectors that likely needs attention. Belt to AC is off currently. Have
not cranked the starter either. Rear wiper doesn't work but have not
investigated why. Plastic chrome on the vehicle is in less than cherry
condition, worth removing prolly. Pinhole gap in right rear backup light
needing filling.
Email privately for more info or questions, if I wax it and do some other
minor stuff to make it tow better, I'll need to get $2000 for it. If not,
I'll negotiate from there. It's located in our church parking lot in North
Little Rock AR. Home phone is 501-758-4716 if you are old fashioned and
want to talk about it.
