Hello, I've noticed from reading some posts about the Subaru conversion that it does not use the original VW Vanagon pilot bearing (in the crankshaft) but uses a bearing in the flywheel. My (special) case involves a need to put a good bearing in the original Vanagon flywheel but I'd guess that using the pilot bearing intended for the waterboxer crankshaft (which also will require enlarging the flywheel center hole) is not a good idea, due to poor reliability of that bearing. Does anyone have part # and/or mfr info for a suitable bearing, perhaps a sealed one with inner and outer races? Any suggestions on where or with who to research this further? What diameter is the input shaft as it passes through the flywheel? Thanks! Scott Leavitt Mountain View CA |
