Well it seems that I'm stuck in the middle with an 83 Air cooled. Very
few air cooled guys on the Vanagon List.
I've used a Hayes manual for years and its just a licensed copy of
Bentley from what I can see.
I've found a lot of things missing from both Bentley and Hayes but
roughly thirty five years of working on gas engines of all types gives me
some insight of how things go together.
I had to order three oil pumps to get the right one and even then I had
to go to Porsche to get it.
I also had to go to Porsche to get my crankshaft end-play shims.
Anytime I buy parts, its buyer beware on many items.
I've just put a new engine (rebuilt my 2000cc) so hopefully I can return
the Bentley to its regular location as a door stop.
