MIke, An honest opinion? What you are dealing with here is a classic case of diminishing values. The Merc, will never loose it's value, as long as it stays in nice shape, in a matter of fact, it'll keep growing in value. The Westy is worth something, but I don't think it will ever be worth what the Merc will. ( of course the car has one heck of a head start on the Westy, in age.) It's your call, but The Vw's are a bottomless pit for the fund dumping. I won my VW on a bet, so the original investment was zero---but I had to dump around $3000.00 in it to keep it road worthy. Now it needs, front end bushing, all new hoses, pushrod tube seals, and the trans cooler is leaking, so who knows how much that will take to repair. And the seams are going to need some attention, prior to the winter, but I can do this myself. So the question is-----where does a guy stop? Is this a good value? Not sure, but I suppose little by little, I'll get it all done, because it is fun to drive. Tough question you have presented----I guess it all depends on how much you like the Westy, to dump some more money into it. It's kinda like VW required dues---ya gotta spend it to drive them !!:>)
