Eric, the diesel engine has the injector pump mounted in space used by the accessories in gas models. This is the essence of the problem and prevents the use of the gas engine accessory mounting system in diesels. The inline 4 gas is not "just like the diesel".

The 15 degree engine mounting you are using may help some in Syncros but 2WD Vanagons have less height in the engine compartment and this would make the engine stick up through the engine lid.

I hope to find that by mixing pieces from different models we can find a combination of stock brackets that will allow both PS and A/C but I am not optimistic. I do think that PS can be accommodated with the PS bracket from an 85 Jetta TD although the lower hose interferes as you noted. I will try this soon.

If anyone with a diesel Vanagon and stock engine mounts has mounted PS, A/C, or both, please share how you did it and how long it has been working. I can see how custom brackets might help but given the massive bracket reinforcements seen on many of the stock VW diesel engine accessory systems there must be some vibration problems to be overcome for long term reliability. A failure of one bracket or belt can easily cascade into a failure of all of the belts. I will do without the PS and A/C rather than risk this if a reasonable looking solution is not found.
