Subject: fuel drip at fill up
Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII

Hi. As I was getting gas, I took a peek underneath the vanagon in general to look for leaks. When the tank was almost full (I'm not sure of the timing), I noticed a steady drip coming from the left front. There's some sort of plastic resevoir near the front left wheel, and there are a couple of old looking hoses (fuel, I presume) going to it). The drip was coming from a point where one of those hoses meets a more rigid line (I think). This rigid line is then connect to another hose a few inches away. These are thin hoses, but I'm not sure of their function. The leak stopped shortly after I filled the tank, and there does not appear to be a leak when I drive (though there did appear to be some moisture at the left front corner of the gas tank...I wasn't sure if this come from above or if the tank has a leak, but I suspect that I'd know if the tank had a leak).

I've read about fuel leaks that sound similar as experienced by other list members, but I'd like to understand what's going on (and fix the problem). I would have read a bit more before asking, but I'm on the road at the moment. So, what parts am I describing above, and what should be done to repair the leak? What are the potential consequences of not being able to fix this problem soon?

thanks for the help, David '87 westy and daily driver
