Subject: soundproofing

I installed 5 sheets of 29" by 32" soundproofing from www.partsexpress.com into my vanagon. 1 each into doors, 1 1/4 into slider door, one into rear hatch and some into rear right side body. Rear hatch and right side body next to rear winshield washer seemed to make biggest difference. The pillars going up from engine compartmnt to upper side body vents seem to resonate with engine noise. Not any more. So, now I have a very quiet vanagon and only noise I hear is tyre noise from front wheelwells (next to be insulated) and miscelanious squeaks from parts rattling about inside. Sure, it's very quiet. But I can't hear the engine's valve noise of Bzzzzzzzzzzz. Used to be kind of nice going down road with radio off and windows down and listening to Bzzzzzzzzzz of engine and feeling happy looking at scenery. Now I feel like I'm in some sort of sterile minivan as a passenger rather than a driver. Iggy Pop Passenger song is neat

but being a passenger means you can't control your journey (watched "Timmothy Leary's Last Trip" last night). So, I'm not sure what to say here. I've "Improved" my vanagon but it seems to have lost some of it's soul in the process. I love listening to music, which I do all the time in the Cadillac (93 DeVille - 4.9 Litre faster than heck car), but somehow I miss going down the

road in the hippievan and listening to the motor while absorbing all the scenery going by and keeping the radio off. Not sure what the crux of the biscuit here is but there are positives and negatives from every action.
