Put in a guage! Every VW should have an oil pressure guage. Your pressure may be fine off of idle. Hot idle pressure is often very low. It should go out as soon as you touch the gas pedal. Flickering just means you are right at the switches setpoint--full on could be 1/2 psi less! Are you using 20W-50 oil? Jay

OK, i've got the oil pressure warning light coming on at idle but it goes away when I step on the gas. I know the manual says that a little flickering is ok but this is full on. This is an 80 Vanagon. I can't decide whether to replace the oil pump or put new bearings in it. Either way I will have to pull the engine. Has anyone ever replaced an oil pump to solve their oil pressure problems? Doug .................................... Get your own free email account from http://www.popmail.com
