Max,

Sounds like you have some "replacement" cupholders. Similar to the ones for $2.99 at K-mart. They look almost exactly as the factory ones. The ones you have sound like the ones I can get from my VW dealer for $7.95-$14. The difference is in the spring. The less expensive ones use plastic instead of steel for a spring. However, they also come with the adjustable cup-ring (or U). They all have the international cup symbol. They are not really rare.

The mats that you are talking about sound like the Plasticolor (brand) mats which are still available and priced reasonably under $40 for the pair.
