Subject: CO Mixture Adjustment
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"; format=flowed

Well, after trying everything that has been mentioned on this list about cures for the infamous stumbling problem, it finally came down to a bad O2 sensor and a worn carbon track in the AFM. The O2 sensor was relatively new with only about 25K on it, but replacing it made a big difference. I fixed the carbon track by loosening the screws on the substrate and sliding it forward so the wipers follow a new path. The old path had white substrate showing through at the high wear point in the middle.

Throughout all this fumbling around, however, I took the liberty of cranking open my CO adjustment screw in a moment of desparation and environmental weakness. Now my question is, should I just put it back in about the same place it was, or is there a nominal starting point from which it is set before final adjustment with a CO meter? I do not have a CO meter available and am only interested right now in avoiding drivability problems until I get everything shaken down and am sure there are no further problems.

Thanks in advance, John Clavin
