Dave,
Your'e right about not topping off the system, for this would be a waste
of product, if it had a suspected leak.


However,in certain situations you must at least get enough charge into
the lines to circulate the refrigerant , if you want to use a dye to
locate a tough to find leak.


It's a catch 22 type game.
You're damned if you do, you're damned if you don't.
