Subject: starters and solenoids
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

Some time ago mention was made of replacing the solenoid of the vanagon start using a Ford solenoid ($7 item i believe).

recently became obsessed with the starter on a 5-cyl quantum. with the starter dismounted from the engine the electric motor can be made to spin by hot wiring it, however, the solenoid is unable to thrust the drive gear. i've tried to remove the mounting screws to pull the solenoid but only succeeded to warp the philip screw head.

so what is the trick here ? are these units rebuildable ?

if so, where best to get replacement solenoids ?

thanks
