Neal, Yep, if you immersed them rubber window gaskets in WD-40 for any period of time, it most likely would rot them.

But not to just install them chrome moldings.

Been removing and replacing windsheilds in Mack trucks with rubber locker beads for 27 years, and none of them have rotted yet !!

I found that WD-40 isn't all that they claim as far as water repelency. First couple of good rain storms, it's all gone.

Soapy water is Ok too, just don't stay right slippery enough long enough for me.
