<<... Are there not community standards of decency which are respected by the majority? >>

I'm not sure who originated the above statement. I deleted most of the posting relating to this topic. I had to go to the archives to see what the fuss was all about.

I find it ironic that the author referred to above should make that statement. The Nazi's & their supporters made similar statements about the morality of not being Aryan & Christian. They used the term similar to "...community standards of decency which are respected by the majority..." as a way to justify removing those who did agree with their ideology.

I don't necessarily agree with jokes made in bad taste. As you all may have noticed in the past, I'm one of the first to jump on someone making racially tainted remarks. However, I also cherish the idea of free speech. The guy said some things that some of you find unpalatable. Whether he meant it one way or the another is a moot point. I believe he got the message.

This was a discussion between himself and another listee (who seemed to have disappeared from the discussion). I hope he got smart and decided to keep his mouth shut to let the issue rest and not just off of vacation somewhere.

Don't start with me on free speech issues. I may just tell you all about having lived in a third world country where I witnessed people shot for something as simple as telling the president's wife that she had already bought too many shoes.
