Howdy list,

Things are looking up for the Vanagon list. Just over a week ago, I
purchased a remanufactured Dell PowerEdge 1400 server. It has a single
P3-800mhz processor, 256MB of RAM and a single 9.1GB SCSI drive. MUCH more
powerful that the P90 we are running on now. It is currently sitting under
my desk, waiting for me to install the OS and ListServ software. I hope to
have it up and running sometime during the next 3 weeks. The Dell service
tag # is 6WFDK01 for those of you who want to view the specs on the
http://support.dell.com website.

Thanks to everybody who was kind enough to donate. I have updated the

and the info should be current as of today.

An additional upgrade I would really like to make right off the bat is to
add a second 9.1G hard drive as a mirror of the first. That way, we can
suffer a single drive failure without any data loss. So, if you can spare a
few pennies this month, please send them to the list! Donations can be via
PayPal or to the mailing address listed listed on the donations page.

Hopefully, this server will speed up those painfully slow web archive
searches. If it still seems sluggish on the new hardware, we can add a
second P3-800 processor to add even more "umph".
