I've been buying used spedos for about 10$ out of wrecking yards for the last seven years. Some have had 65K on them and some had 276K on them but you can't beat the price. Most spedo shops want 35$ to just take a look and give you a 120$ estimate. To match your spedo refer to the little number right above the trip meter set, mine says 806 and with Michlein 14x185c tires it reads true at 60 MPH. Some spedos have threaded connector to the cable and some have plastic clips so you also need to match that aspect.

Stan Wilder 83 Westfalia Air Cooled (I use a 87 Vanagon spedo with the Kilo and MPH, top speed 100MPH Ha! Ha!, not me never).
