You can bend the throttle arm down like the OE Vanagon pump, but the arm
will still be shorter.  It works fine this way.  Clearance with the
engine cover isn't much of an issue since the boost enrichment aneroid
sticks up much higher than the throttle arm after you bend it.  You will
have to fabricate or modify a throttle cable bracket to match.  Turning
the stock TD bracket upside down and drilling new holes works reasonably
well.  Pay close attention to the throttle cable adjustment.  You don't
want to put any tension on the cable at full throttle.  It adjusts at
the pedal end.
