WD-40 is modified turpentine I hear.

Dish washing soap can lead to rust - due to phosphates I hear that get trapped between the rubber and metal body work.

My preferred lubricant for window work is silicon spray which is supposed to be good for metal and rubber alike. It also stays slick for several days. It does get washed off of or absorbed by the rubber eventually.

I installed my windshield ('78 Westy) with the help of my wife (who has been my window installer all along - also builds engines!) using silicone spray.

We realized the windshield was bulging the rubber out on the driver's side. The windshield was too far over (not centered) on the van. By cleaning the glass inside and out (and my hands) for traction I was able to press one hand inside and one outside and slide it over 3/32" or so - so of a lunging push.

As for the WD-40 and the dish washing liquid - can anyone educate me any further - or correct my statements?
