I just put a rebuilt 2000cc FI engine in my 83 AirCooled Westfalia. I posted my inquiry to the list about hydraulic lifter adjustment and experienced typeIV rebuilders and long time owners suggested that I choose a setting of 3/4 Turn to 1 1/4 turn, saying that the lifter is just a column of oil when its operating properly but that anything more than 1.5 turns has led to long term problems. I'd say go with about 1 turn in from light contact with the lifter. Thats what I'm running and it seems to work just fine, but I've only got 1200mi on my new engine. You can always go back and re-adjust so try the 1 turn in and see if it works out for you.
