Subject: Installing Sliding Mosquito Slider
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

Morning List, Since I've had dozens more requests for info on how to install a sliding mosquito screen, here goes again.

**********************************************

First, buy some soft insect netting rated to keep out the notorious "no see 'em." I bought my fabric, sold by the yard, at an outdoor supply outlet. Look for this screen at REI & other similar outlets selling tents, backpacking gear, etc. It's soft, but sturdy, not at all stiff. Mine was a soft gray-green color which "disappears" when looked out thur from inside the van.

For the sliding door area, cut a piece of netting approx 6 inches longer, & a few inches wider on both sides of the door opening. Attach the netting to the bottom hem of the existing sliding curtain using velcro tabs. That way, you can remove the screen & store it when not needed for long periods. When installed, the whole curtain can be stored snapped into the curtain tie back, just like usual.

I've found, camping/living in my Westy 4-5 months at a time in Mexico, that an *ideal insect screen allows quick, easy access in & out of the van. By cutting the screen so it's long enough to hang at least six inches below the threshold, it keeps the screen from blowing inward in a stiff breeze.

I normally just tuck the extra width of screen into the van on the side doors, & have found this adequate protection. If mosquitos are agressive--use a couple heavy magnets on the side door pillars to hold the screen flush. Radio Shack sells magnets--just be sure to get ones powerful enough to hold thru your screen.

This solution has worked well for me in two winter's south of the border. It's cheap, easy to install, & best of all--doesn't become a drag to use when constantly going in & out of van. *******************************************************
