But, but, but they Doooooo.

Early model water-cooled A1 chassis radiators have the expansion camber built into the end caps while later models (oh, say after 1985) have an external overflow bottle connected via a smallish braid covered rubber hose on the In side and a larger rubber hose on the down side.

Pop the hood of a Golf/Jetta built after 85 and see what I mean.
