Subject: how much did you pay for your vanagon

I bought two vans. After looking for about a year, I bought an 86 wolfsburg weekender for $1000. Body in very good shape for the age. A few small dents and scratches is all. 169,000 miles, engine rebuilt supposedly around 100,000. Auto tranny. Exhaust was shot, oil pressure buzzing, had a bird's nest inside. Interior almost complete but pretty worn. Awning included. The more I work on it, the better I think it was cared for (mechanically.)

Then a few weeks later, a co-worker spotted an '85 for sale by the side of the road. Ended up getting that one for $900. Seller had all kinds of trouble with it, it was not reliable transportation, which is what they needed. It is a full westy. I had planned on converting mine to the full westy, so it was a wealth of parts, had pretty good tires, all the wheel covers, etc. The whole interior was in really good condition and pretty complete. Body rough after having lived in Ohio. 98,000 miles, no major engine work known to have taken place. Doesn't run too well, though it got me home. O2 sensor wire not connected. Does seem to have adequate power though. 4 spd not shifting very well, possible 3-4 slider hub thing.

Take a look at them if you like:
