Hi Volks- I think this question barely qualifies as appropriate for the list, but since there are alot of Canadian list members (and Yanks that travel up there) thought someone might be able to help. Traveling with my family in Vancouver this past spring I was cited for speeding - believe it or not - in my in-laws Westy (WA tags, NOT THAT IT MATTERS!!). We were supposedly doing like 65 mph in a 45mph zone (highway 1 north, West-Van.), but we feel like this citation was wrong as we were in a loaded down bus with 4 people, gear, etc.. We went back to this spot the next day and tried to re-create the speed which was impossible because of the incline of the hill and the Westy's limited power, etc., etc. we had trouble getting up to 55mph. Of course the Mountie was more interested in my non-Canadian drivers' licence than rationalizing about physics! Anyway, long story short, we had to leave for home and didn't have time to or know how to go about disputing a Canadian citation from the U.S. We have since received a notice in the mail and don't really want to start an international crisis over it, but still - 4 of us (3 Canadians by the way...NOT THAT IT MATTERS!!) say there's no way we were speeding that much over the limit. Not to be disrespectful or irresponsible, but do I have any options here? Thanks, Scott and Candis 88 Westy |
