About the recent discussion about German auto first aid kits. Every motor vehicle in Germany is required to carry one. The German first aid kits come in all different shapes and sizes. The most common ones are in the plastic or metal boxes. They are also available as pillows with a zipper, so you can use it as a pillow. That's the one I have. It's called "Auto-Verbandkissen, Inhalt DIN 13164 nach gesetzlicher Vorschrift der StVZO 35h". In Germany, they are very common and relatively inexpensive. Their content is standard. Mostly a bunch of gauze, and burn bandages, and a crummy little scissor, and a how-to booklet on how to bandage someone up. It's only designed for assistance until the ambulance arrives, for the first half hour or so. People in Germany are required to assist injured motorists, and everyone applying for a driver's license has to take a first aid class so they know how to use the kit. Here in the U.S., if you would help an injured party, they might sue you later, and blame their injury on you. Harald '90 westy with first aid pillow |
