Before I bought my Westy, I had an '86 GL that we used for camping. I made some wooden frames with screening tacked on. It worked well. Slide open the window, insert frame into track and slide the window back against the frame.

Well, then. That begs the question... Where do you get VW screens for, say, a non-Westy Wolfsburg? I made my own - using screen material from some huge home-type center, and sticky-back Velcro - but they look bad and the Velcro is losing it's glue, so it does not stay put on the window frame any more. If you don't have a Westfalia, they don't fit. The window frames are different on Westies to accommodate the screens. We sell the screens too, but specify them as "Westfalia-only." - Ron Salmon The Bus Depot, Inc. www.busdepot.com (215) 234-VWVW
