Subject: Was: Middle Seat Shoulder Belts

Hey all,

Today, after much polite dealer service crap, the Shoulder belts are being installed into the back of my 86 GL for free. Although, it is not what I thought I was getting. VW is installing shoulder belts for the two outside positions of the back seat not the middle seat as I had hoped. It has taken 3 trips to the dealer to have this done; first trip they claimed there was no place to install them, 2nd trip they said that they needed a VW rep to come by and show them how to install (2 days at dealer) then said they didn't have the hardware (bolts), 3rd trip, today, should do it.

Details of how they work etc. The replacement belt return bolts on to the body behind the panel that covers the washer fluid (RR) to 3 of the holes that are pre drilled at the factory just to the rear and below the washer tank (the tank is triangular) and to a spot under the very most rear panel where the is a white plastic plug in the bolt hole. The 3rd point is where your current belt is already. The cutting of panels is necessary.

I will try to get part numbers and tech bulletin numbers from them when I pick it up.
