Patrick,

I cruise at 80 all day long on extended drives w/o any troubles in my 87 GL with the Wasserboxer 2.1. In my 1.6 turbodiesel Syncro, I would be in tears if I drove faster than 70mph both from amazement and the noise. That is assuming no big hills.

Some people have made other modifications such as added power and taller gearing which allows you to cruise at an even higher speed. You just need to make sure your vehicle is in good overall shape and make sure you don't drive into the RED zone in your tach.
