I found out that Sacramento River skeeters knew all about the rear hatch screen on a summer weekend trip. I have not successfully modified the stock screen on my 83 Westy, but it seems like careful attachment with sticky velcro on the bottom edge of the engine compartment and between the snaps might do the trick.

BTW, I managed to trap most of the blood-filled bugs inside when I closed the hatch in the night - in the morning they were all lined up on the inside of the windshield trying to get out - it was sweet revenge when I squished each and every one!!!
