Subject: Westy propane leak?
Content-type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII

Yesterday I filled our '88 Westy propane tank for the first time this year (it was totally empty). All went well, except after closing the bleeder, gas continued to bleed from a small round hole in the casting just about the bleeder output. Seeing that the attendant has put over 10 litres in, and I seem to recall the tank only holding 9 or so, I assumed he had overfilled, and this was an overpressure valve. I bled off more gas by opening the bleeder knob, which took a minute or two before the stream turned from liquid and heavy white gas, into what appeared to be just air. I then closed the knob, but the pinhole was still letting out gas, although much slower now.

This morning the leak seems to have stopped, but a soap test still shows a very slow leak at the pinhole.

Has anyone seen this before? What is the purpose of this pinhole? Is the filler assembly a standard item that a gas shop can check/repair/replace, or is it Westy specific?

ps: I also removed the fridge, cleaned, and re-installed yesterday, which was easier than expected. The burner was also in better shape than I expected, so I'm not sure why it's so hard to light...
