Hi volks, to remove the ignition switch, the Bentley seems to imply that it is necessary to take the steering wheel off, remove various spacers and sleeves off the column, and finally remove the steering wheel lock housing (containing both the lock cylinder and ignition switch), all the while using special VW spacer/sleeve removing tools. Seems like a huge PITA. Is there no simpler way to get the switch out? After all, I can remove the plastic steering column covers and drill a little hole in the lock housing to release the pin that holds the lock cylinder...would the ignition switch slide right out along with the lock cylinder, or am I doomed to the Bentley way?
