Don't know if this is causing your problem, but I once induced a flashing temp light by accidentally sticking a key into the slot in the steering column right next to the ignition switch. I have a big key for my Geo Tracker that doesn't quite fit on my key ring and occasionally sticks out at a right angle to it. Once, while starting up the Westy, the Tracker key got wedged into the steering column, causing the horn to blow and the temp light to flash. Man! Did that drive me nuts for a good 2-3 minutes until I saw the problem!

So, my point is, there is obviously some wiring in the steering column which, if shorted to ground, will cause your symptoms. I don't have a Bentley (shame on me), but perhaps someone who does could tell us what wires those are.

I just got an '84 vanagon which has a flashing Water reservoir level/engine temp warning light flashing continously. With engine cold and reservoir full it continues to flash. With temp switch wires and water level switch wires jumpered, it still

flashes. Have not been able to find a relay or anything associated with these two switches and warning lamp.

Any Ideas? TIA Tim N.W. Fl, '84 Gl, 184k mi.
