Are you sure? Are you maybe thinking of something else? Bentley shows a perfectly ordinary SPDT relay, energized through the alternator D+ terminal and grounded by way of the starter solenoid (50 terminal on the ign switch). This last bit is to my mind unnecessary -- it prevents the relay from closing while you crank the engine, but I've never heard of a Bosch alternator that would charge while cranking so I think it's moot...
