Subject:      Schmoo Award!
Content-Type: multipart/alternative;

Hi all,

Interesting this talk about the Schmoo award in Budd Premack's saga. When I bought my 1984 Westy in California, it had vanity plates on it which read " 1 Schmooo". I had never heard of the award before but perhaps my van was a past winner. The first owner had the plates on it and the guy I bought it from did not know what the plates meant. I just assumed, since the first owner was Assyrian, that it was a name or meant something in the Persian language.

I live in Colorado so I changed the plates out last year. Maybe I should start a Vanagon List version and award a plate to whoever has had their Vanagon towed the most times over the last year. They could proudly display it on their van for the year and pass it on the following year to the next towing champion. In case of a tie in number of times towed, most miles could be the tiebreaker. In fact, lets do it! I guess it being the end of July, prime towing season for Vanagons or at least for Westfalia's, the year should run from August 1, 2000 to August 1, 2001 so we can include Budd's tow trips. Let's make August 7th the cutoff for submitting total times towed and mileage, to accommodate those on vacation accumulating more towing time.

May the best, or I guess the worst Vanagon or Vanagon mechanic win!

John Andrew 1984 "Westiico"
