<<<Does anyone know of a 5 speed transmission that could be modified to fit in a 1991 Vanagon with the priginal Wassbox engine?>>>

Yes, It is a basic bolt on with the only change being the shorter front mount (Weddle can do this for you).

I have one. I am using orginal linkage, mounts, cv joints, etc.

Weddle Eng. have them.

Get the .457 not the .483 ring & pinion for a true overdrive and better shifting points Vs. the stock four. I can take fourth up to @75 mph (faster if I push the engine past 5000 rpm) if needed to pass or else...

First gear is on the same line as reverse so rocking the van if and when you get stuck, makes getting out easier (BTDT).

Cost is @$2000 to $2500.

If you customize the WBX engine, as I have, the engine can easily push the van with the different ratios.

The 5 speed .457 tranny and my modified drop in WBX engine have made just about the perfect engine drive train combo.

IF VW had did it my way, not many would be complaining about the lack of power or needing an extra gear...

Robert
