The upright 1.6 Beetle engine remained an option in Transporters until the last of the GermAN Bays in 1979. Brasilian Bays retained the Beetle engine, with no Type 4 option.

Swingaxle is IRS. IRS means independent movement of each wheel; in no way does it infer double-jointed driveshafts.

The Brasilian Bays were stuck with the old-style pre1971 drums until at least the middle 80s.
