Subject: A/C - Vintage Air Unit into Vanagon ??
Content-Type: text/plain

Desiring A/C in front like every other vehicle on the planet, I've been intrigued by this idea for a couple of years.

Vintage Air makes several heat, defrost and A/C units mostly designed for the hot rod market. All functions are combined into one unit heater AC evaporator and fan unit. Using one of these would allow use of only one fan and one ducting system.

Has any list crazy (like me) ever removed the Vanagon heater defroster unit and installed one of these aftermarket units?

I have investigated a van with the dashboard removed and it seems that one of Vintage Air's "Supercooler" units would fit nicely into the space occupied by the stock unit. Only drawback is that I don't think the V.A. unit has a provision for routing "fresh air" from outside, through the vents.

I'm considering this but also have a Behr aftermarket unit salvaged from a parts van as a second alternative. Seems kinda silly to take all that extra space behind the glovebox and use the two extra fans on the Behr unit and then also loose ability to have heat at the dashboard level. The Behr unit requires blocking the dashboard heat off and using those ducts only for AC.

What are your thoughts on this??
