Bill,

You probably have a broken alternator bracket. I believe it costs around $15 at the dealer.

i am hoping to do all three (alternator, ps, ac) before we leave for our vacation on saturday. any known pitfalls to watch out for? i am also going to have to prepare to change out the stud on my lower alternator bracket, as there's quite a bit of movement in the alternator and i don't know if it is the bracket or the stud (or simply a bolt needing tightening).

any tips or tricks? otherwise i'll follow bentley.

thanks. bill '87 syncro westfalia http://www.scruznet.com/~kasper/pics/westy/
